Hello iTunes Lovers,
Today marks the first release in a series of Autobahn accelerators, this one focusing on downloads and previews through the iTunes store. By installing Autobahn, you will get blazing fast downloads of music and movies, and seamless viewing of video previews. You can download Autobahn for iTunes at www.getautobahn.com.
The resounding success of the Apple iTunes store shows the power of giving consumers what they want, when they want it, wherever they want to go. Our mission is to make downloads through iTunes even faster, while introducing some new tricks and functionality enabled by Autobahn. Right off the bat, you’ll be able to monitor the downloads speeds you’ve achieved with Autobahn. Just check out the performance indicator that pops up from the Autobahn icon in your system tray.
Stay tuned for more blog posts talking about some cool tricks, and please use this blog to tell us about your experience with Autobahn.
Additionally, we’d like to hear about your favorite websites or applications that you’d like to see accelerated or improved with Autobahn.
Happy Downloading,
The Swarmcast Team

Jim and Stephen,
The Mac OSX release is a few weeks away. The software is ready but the install process isn’t yet as polished as Mac users expect.

Can Autobahn improve normal loading speed as well as downloading speed? Or are they the same thing? (I’m wondering about YouTube, specifically). Thanks!

Madeleine,
Autobahn has the ability to improve both load times for video as well as download speed. Autobahn for iTunes is the first in a series of accelerators that we’ll be rolling out. Future accelerators will address user experience on other popular applications and sites.
Keep your eye on the blog, and make sure to sign up for our email list to keep up on future acceleration capabilities, and cool new functionality that we enable.
Cheers,
John

Is there a list of the accelerators that you will be publishing so that people can feel more comfortable suggesting websites or applications?
June 21st, 2007 at 7:47 pm
John: The opportunities are wide open right now. We’re looking at sites that are video-heavy and where improved streaming would be most appreciated by the users. What would you like to see?

I just would like some sort of list, that is in the working by you guys. But in terms of applications Limewire would seem a likely candidate even though it seems like it would be quite difficult. Has this been considered?

hi, how would i know if autobahn is accelarating, cuz i dont get the perfomance monitor thats supposed to pop up,eventhough i have “show autobahn status” checked.
January 21st, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Josh, in the most recent release 4.2.5 the pop-up was disabled after people kept telling us it was intrusive. The best way to check (besides noticing that iTunes downloads are much faster) is to look at the network monitor in windows and comparing the bandwidth chart to the examples in this posting: http://blog.getautobahn.com/wordpress/?p=8 During the iTunes download your chart should look more like the graph on the left than the one on the right.
If you’re not seeing that head over to the forums, http://forum.getautobahn.com/vanilla/ , and let us know. The support guys will ask for your autobahn-log.txt file and possibly get you to hit a test URL or two.
